ABOUT THE TRIP

Just outside Fort William, and with stunning views down Loch Shiel and towards the world famous Glenfinnan "Harry Potter" viaduct - this has got to be one of the very best places to paddleboard in Scotland!

Get to grips with the paddleboards in the beautiful sheltered River Callop, and then out into the Loch to watch the Jacobite steam train head over the viaduct. Learn from our expert guides about the history of the area, all whilst enjoying a safe and fun paddleboard journey!

TRIP ITINERARY
​

Meet your experienced and friendly guide at Glenfinnan Community Car Park (see map below) at the start time of your session - they'll be wearing a blue top and holding a SUP paddle!
GLENFINNAN CAN BE BUSY! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND EITHER USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT, OR ARRIVING 30 MINUTES EARLY TO ALLOW TIME TO PARK YOUR VEHICLE

Your guide will give you an appropriately sized wet suit to get changed into, and changing robe. Any of your own personal clothing can either be left in your vehicle or ours, and vehicle keys and valuables will be stored in our fully waterproof cases,
whilst you go paddleboarding. -
​Once changed into your wet suit, you’ll walk with your guide (10 minute walk) to the trip start point on the beautiful River Callop. You’ll then get a full safety briefing from our expert and fully qualified guides, and an introduction to the adventure, the equipment and how to use it all safely – the paddleboard, paddle, personal flotation device and the quick release belt for your leash.

Then it’s off onto the water, starting in the sheltered, slow moving river to get use to the boards, and then venturing onto magnificent Loch Shiel. Your guide will tell you about the natural history, flora and fauna of the loch, plus the historic Bonnie Prince Charlie memorial. After exploring this awe inspiring and stunning loch, it’s time for the Jacobite steam train to pass over the world famous Glenfinnan “Harry Potter” viaduct, and you’ll see it from the best possible perspective.

Before you know it, you’ll be paddling up the river back to the start point like a pro! You’ll then walk back to the main car park, get changed and your guide will take back your wet suit. Then it’s time to say goodbye, with lots of memories and photos from your incredible paddleboarding adventure.​​​

Glenfinnan can be very busy for parking, and we highly recommend taking public transport. Why not travel over the viaduct on the train before paddling beneath it!?
​
If driving from Fort William, this is the SECOND car park on your right (the bigger car park). ​​​​​​​​​

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
​
-Towel for changing
-Hard soled shoes you can get wet
- Long sleeved top that can get wet for underneath the wet suit
-Cap and suncream
-Clothes to change into afterwards
-Drink and Snack to take on the board
-Any personal medication you might need
We will provide you with all the rest of the specialist equipment for the session: wet suit, cagoule, buoyancy aid (personal flotation device), leash and belt, SUP, paddle, and dry bag for your drink and snack.
We recommend not bringing phones or electronic devices with you on the trip or session. If you choose to do so, this is at your own risk. Your guide will take photos and share these with you.
Any vehicle keys will be securely stored with your guide in a fully waterproof case whilst on the session/trip.
